God Keeps His Promises
A lot has happened in the life of my family the last two weeks and I want to express my appreciation to everyone who conveyed their condolences for the passing of my father-in-law, Billy Smith. Thank you for your expressions of sympathy through your cards, texts, phone calls, and in-person and most all, thank you for your prayers. As we continue our journey through the book of Joshua, it is plain to see that the nation of Israel was faced with an impossible task of possessing the land that God had promised to their forefathers. The Canaanites who inhabited the Promised Land viewed the Israelites as a band of desert people, mere shepherds. They did not have chariots. They had no mounted calvary. They really had no formally organized and trained army. On the other hand, the Canaanites were extremely prepared militarily with fortifications, horses, and chariots. The only way that Israel could possess the land was through total and complete trust in God’s promise to Abraham which happened over 400 years before. In spite of the difficult task before them, we see that this promise was fulfilled! “Not one of the good promises which the Lord had made to the house of Israel failed; all came to pass.” Joshua 21:45. That is the way it is with God. 2 Timothy 2:13 tells us, “If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.” He keeps His promises. He will not fail! You may have impossible tasks before you in your life. You may have career choices, cancer, disease, or financial crisis that are going to seem impossible for you to overcome. The only way that you are going to overcome is by confidently relying on God and His promises. There are numerous promises in Scripture upon which you can confidently rely such as Philippians 4:19 “And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” and Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” The Bible is a treasure trove of God’s promises, and the best part is, He will keep every single one! He will not fail! These are your Words for Wednesday. I hope to see you this Sunday morning at 10:45 at Ballentine Elementary School for worship! Have a great rest of your week! In Christ, Kevin |
